Hawaii Pacific University
So you are planning to study at Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) and you need a place to live. Keep calm and continue reading. We will show you what the various options are and what campus life at HPU is like so you can make a well-informed decision.
The university has two options for students who prefer to live in university housing. The Loa campus has residence halls mainly for younger, undergraduate students. Students living here are required to purchase a meal plan. The Hawaii Loa campus has recreational facilities that include basketball/volleyball courts, tennis courts, a fitness center and a Student Center.
There is also the option to live in the new Waterfront Lofts at Aloha Tower Marketplace in downtown Honolulu. This brand-new suite style residence was opened in 2014 and is located on the waterfront. Meal plans are optional. You can chose to live in a single room, a double room or even a triple room.
A lot of students prefer to find their own accommodation. This is perfect if you feel comfortable living on your own. It is advisable to wait with finding a long-term housing until after you have arrived in Hawaii; as you should never rent somewhere or pay any deposits before you have seen the place in person. You should therefore set aside sufficient time for house hunting before you start your studies. The majority of students live in the Waikiki area.

Most students use the bus service in Hawaii. You can get around all of Oahu by bus. For those who live in the Waikiki area the bus trip to the Downtown Campus takes at least 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. There is a bus service between the Loa campus and the Downtown campus.
If you feel adventurous and would like to explore one of the other islands of Hawaii, you will probably have to catch a plane. Only two ferries exist between the islands, and these run between Maui and Lānaʻi and Maui and Molokaʻi.
