California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) offers well-equipped accommodation options and works closely with a number of providers. You can live with fellow students in a student housing facility, or you can decide for private rental or a homestay if you would like to live with an American family. You can choose between the following accommodation options:
CSUSM offers two options for on-campus housing: the University Village Apartments (UVA) and the QUAD. Both are modern on-campus apartments designed exclusively for students attending California State University San Marcos. UVA offers a 9 or 12-month lease. The Quad only offers 12-month leases for students commencing in the Fall semester. We advise you to apply early, since the on-campus housing fills up many months before each semester.
The QUAD features fully-furnished apartments, a state-of-the-art game cave, a modern fitness center and a resort-style pool. Students can either share a bedroom, or have a private room (a lot more expensive). University Village Apartments is a bit older but also has all the facilities you need…and more. These include a resort style pool, cycling room, cardio center, fire pit, game room & much more. Meet new friends or hang out with old ones at our social events! Both are in walking distance from campus. A lot of social events are arranged at both locations.
It is recommended that first year international students who will be doing a full degree at CSUSM stay on campus to begin with. This will make the transition a lot easier and it is the perfect way to meet new friends and get involved in the student community. If you are coming to CSU San Marcos for just one semester it might be a good idea to consider living with a homestay family or in private accommodation. Leases for on campus housing are usually for a full academic year and one semester leases are only available by exception.
Living with an American family in homestay is one of the best ways to learn about American culture and customs. Many students choose homestay for their first semester at the CSUSM.
If you prefer to find private accommodation with other students, the San Marcos, Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, and Vista communities near CSUSM offer many reasonably priced apartments. The following site may be useful in your search for off-campus housing, apartments and room rentals:
