Student life at CSUMB

The campus is built on the site of former Army base Fort Ord. A wide range of events happen on campus every day, including athletic events, guest lectures, concerts and various cultural celebrations.

Support Services

The Academic Skills Achievement Program is located inside CSUMB’s library. This is a free tutoring service open to all students. CSUMB’s Health & Wellness Services include the Campus Health Center, the Personal Growth & Counseling Center, Campus Chaplaincy, and Student Disability Resources.

The Otter Student Union, or OSU, is a student run organization dedicated to serving the campus community by hosting a diverse set of events open to all CSUMB students. Students can participate in more than 50 different clubs and groups, or participate in several team sports. CSUMB’s clubs include rugby, dancing, media arts, sailing, lacrosse, culture clubs, martial arts, and many more. Students can also take part in theme dinners, talent shows and group trips to famous California attractions.


The Aquatic Center has a 25 meter pool, and students are able to take classes such water aerobics and scuba diving. There is also the Otter Sports Center, which contains a gymnasium, locker rooms, racquetball court, weight training area, and a cardio fitness area. The Outdoor Rec Center provides student with gear they can rent for camping, surfing, and rock climbing.


On-Campus housing is guaranteed for international students who apply before the deadline.  Student can live in CSUMB’s residence halls, suites and apartments. There are several dining venues on campus and meal plans are available for campus residents and commuters. International students are usually live in the North Quad. Students may also find private accommodation.


Students can get around using the local bus system Monterey-Salinas Transit. Students can also rent a bike or car. All student of CSUMB can use MST free. There are three airports near to CSUMBM; Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), San Francisco International (SFO) or San Jose International Airport (SJC).
