Education at The Emirates Academy

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management is a specialized university, with business management degree programmes that have a hospitality focus.

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in International Hospitality Management

The Emirates Academy offers a 25% scholarship for Nordic and Dutch students (PDF).

The three year Bachelor degree with Honours is the highest level of undergraduate qualification any student can obtain. An Honours degree enables you to pre-qualify for entry into a range of postgraduate Masters degrees too. Graduates from this programme are expected to rapidly climb through the management structure of a hotel or other hospitality related companies to be the leading senior professionals of the future. 

  • First Honours degree in the region that can be completed in just three years.
  • Internationally recognised qualification. 
  • Graduate to managerial positions in the hospitality industry. 
  • Progress to Masters degree in any Business discipline. 
  • Possibility of one semester at either EHL or Cornell University.

The minimum requirement for application is

  • Successful completion of higher secondary school [12 years of school]; with a minimum average grade of 75%
  • A paper-based TOEFL score of 550 or IELTS overall band of 6.0 (The TOEFL / IELTS test is a UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research requirement and is mandatory for ALL students even if English is their first language.)
  • Successful entrance interview

Transferring to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in International Hospitality Management

The Academy welcomes students who wish to transfer their studies to them. The Academy recognises credits earned at other accredited universities and applications for transfer are possible.  However, the maximum credits given can only be 50% which equates to 63 credits (out of the possible 126 credits).
To determine the number of credits that can be transferred, you must include with your Application detailed learning outcomes and syllabus of the courses from your current university.

When you have submitted a complete application with the detailed course syllabus for the respective courses and the course mapping has been completed, The Academy will be able to confirm the year of entry and the number of credits still remaining.

Associate of Science in International Hospitality Operations

The Associate of Science degree is a one and a half year programme consisting of the first five trimesters of the Bachelor of Science degree (69 credits). This programme provides you with a foundation of essential skills required for a supervisory position in the hospitality industry. You will receive a thorough introduction to food production, restaurant operations, front office and rooms division operations as well as basic and introductory business and management subjects.

Graduates can utilise this programme as a fast track into a career in the hospitality industry or may opt to continue their studies to the full degree programme at The Academy. The internship may be deferred until you leave the Academy and by using the The Academy's partners you can initially get an internship that springboards you into a real job at the end.

The entry requirements and application process for the Associate of Science degree is the same as the Bachelor of Science (Hons.) programme. 

Study Abroad programme

The Study Abroad programme offers unique opportunities for students to study and / or to gain industry experience as part of their home country degree programme.

There is also an optional internship component which can be completed before or after the courses.  Being an integral part of Jumeirah, the luxury hotel group behind world renowned properties such as the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah and many other properties around the world, certainly offers students an unrivalled opportunity for their internships.  In addition, The Academy's strong connections with the hospitality industry also opens up further opportunities within other reputable five-star hotel chains in Dubai. 

The minimum requirements for a study abroad application is

  • Be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student of a University
  • Have grades of good standing
  • Be fluent in the English language

Master of Science (MSc) in International Hospitality Management

This is the first fully accredited Master of Science in International Hospitality Management degree within the region and it is recognized globally by leading universities and the wider hospitality industry.  The content and structure of this programme is based on extensive research to ensure that it provides cutting edge knowledge that builds on undergraduate studies.  Over 60 senior executives world-wide have contributed to the design and content of the degree and it is benchmarked against 15 other internationally renowned Masters-level programmes. 

Programme Structure

The MSc programme adopts a modular mode and it can be completed full time over 1 year.  Each module's duration is one month and involves about 40 contact hours and another 100 hours of self-directed study.  There are a total of 9 modules to be completed plus a formal academic thesis. 

The minimum requirement for application is

  • A Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (out of 4.0)
  • Sufficient relevant work experience - normally at least 1 year at supervisory level
  • A paper-based TOEFL score of 600 or IELTS overall band of 7.0 (The TOEFL / IELTS test is a UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research requirement and is mandatory for ALL students even if English is their first language).
  • Successful completion of The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management's entry tests (if required)
  • Successful interview

English as a Foreign Language programme

The residential English programme is an intensive immersion course that is delivered over 6 months.  All of the classes up to the beginning of the last month are oriented toward general English (English as a Foreign Language "EFL"). The EFL classes all meet for 20 hours per week (total of 400 hours). The last month of all of the English programmes is devoted to TOEFL preparation.  The TOEFL preparation classes meet for 12 hours per week for 4 weeks (total of 48 hours).  If you are planning to apply for admission to the degree programme, The Academy will administer the TOEFL exam to you on their premises immediately following the end of the entire 6-month course. 

The highly experienced, native-speaking English teachers use a dynamic and modern approach utilizing course books, audio-visual aids, games, role plays, written assignments and specially-created materials.  The focus is on developing the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking plus building your confidence in real life situations.  The goal is to help you reach the required proficiency to do your very best on TOEFL.
